What is an essential oil?

An essential oil is a mixture of various biochemical compounds produced by a variety of plants through their metabolism. These oils are then stored in various plant parts in so-called oil glands.

These essential oils are obtained from herbs, fruits, seeds, twigs, roots, branches, bark, flowers, leaves, needles or the roots of trees.

Essential oils are liquids which are very volatile. This means that they evaporate in the air.
If the essential oil is a resinous material, it is also called resinoid.

Essential oils must not be mixed with the oil of plants. These fatty oils are, for example, sunflower oil, olive oil, rapeseed oil or linseed oil.

Essential oils are

  • Mixable with other oils or fats (cream, milk, wax)
  • Very rich in various ingredients
  • Very intensive scented substances
  • Not water-soluble
  • Alcohol-soluble

The active ingredients have such a small molecular structure that they can reach the body through the skin.

Attention!

The internal application of essential oils can lead to serious health damage.

Before you apply essential oils internally, consult your doctor!

The application of essential oils to the skin can lead to skin irritation!

Apply essential oils only diluted to your skin!
