Dosage of essential oils

Basically, it must be said that lay people should apply no essential oils undiluted on the skin in general, and should certainly not take the essential oils inside. The essential oils can cause extremely severe skin damage, they can seriously damage the mucous membranes and can cause poisoning. Mind you, this is a piece of advice for people who are not familiar with essential oils!

For it is of course true that some essential oils, both pure can be given to the skin or can be applied internally. But who does not know the oils that can quickly catch the wrong oil.

In general, it should be said that essential oils are not recommended for everyday life use. so do not let the day run an incense burner every day, because otherwise against the scent gradually dulls, for example. However, the effect of the oil remains. You take it just no longer true as a fragrance.

Quantities for oil burners and evaporator or evaporator

Fragrance lamps are relatively simple in their handling and can now be found in many households. As I said, however, should such a Fragrance lamps do not have all day in operation, it is recommended rather to carry this out more than 2 hours a day.

If you have a particularly robust skin, you can double the content of essential oils.

However, if you do not know what skin type you have, or if you want to be extra careful what should be recommended, please refer to the dosages for sensitive skin.

Care oils and massage oils

If you have a sensitive skin, you should be a maximum of one and a half percent of essential oils per 100 ml of carrier oil, which is about 38 drops maximum. People with robust skin can use the double quantity here again.

Under care oils and massage oils are understood oils which are used for personal care, which is used as the sport oils or with whom you want to do something about varicose veins or bulging veins for example. In addition, also coming oils such as so-called breast oils or oils for colds and coughs, which are applied to the chest or on the back.

The word massage oil is likely to be explained by itself.

Such oils can be applied daily or several times a day.

Medical massage oils

Here, the maximum concentration of essential oils is a maximum of 5%. One should, however, which produce only small quantities and apply always.

A mixing ratio would be, for example, 30 drops of essential oil to 25ml of carrier oil.

Please note that you should only use after the advice of a specialist such medically induced mixtures actually. Such oils are used for a short period and for specific parts of the body. They are, for example, if one is suffering from muscle pain or if you have a little bruised or sprained. However, you should already be sure whether any side effects show what one should stop treatment immediately in these oils.

It is also recommended that you lay down its recipe writing and to write in retrospect, whether it helped or whether any problems have occurred. So you can draw accurate at a later recurrence of the symptoms on the right oil.

It must be said also that applying such body oils on damp or wet skin, and not to dry skin. This allows the oil to be better together with its agents.

Mixtures compresses and wraps

For hot moist wound using an emulsion of essential oil and cream.

Oil compresses

For infants, you should use a maximum of one teaspoon of the oil mixture, for children up to two teaspoons for adults and also a maximum of two teaspoons.

Washes with essential oils or hydrosols

If you want to perform ablutions, Hydrolates are particularly well suited. One gives to two tablespoons Hydrolat in lukewarm water.

At choice you can then add essential oil, two drops, or if you want to give up the Hydrolat, use the same 2-4 drops of essential oil.

Such washes help, for example, if you have skin problems or if you want to reduce fever.

In addition, it should be noted that depending on the temperature of the water entering a calming or stimulating effect.

The water temperature is above body temperature, so there is a calming effect. If the water temperature is below body temperature, such a washing has a stimulating effect.

Bath accessories

Please note that you do not give essential oils directly into their bath water because the oil is not soluble in water and would float on the bath water then above. However, it is much worse that this oil drops could enter pure on your skin depending on the oil and could cause severe irritation.

Ideally, emulsifying these oils with cream and then outputs it to the bath water in.

Alternatively, you can give the oils in a tablespoon of honey and then add the bath water.

Adult people should not use more than 15 drops of essential oil per bath, in children should not be more than ten drops. In infants should act especially careful and use a maximum of four drops.

Sitz baths

For sitz baths the same as for full baths applies. However, the doses are lower because the amount of water is lower. As a guideline applies: Use half the amount of essential oils.


Inhalations are particularly fond performed when one is suffering from colds.

Inhalations should be metered particularly careful as you inhale the vaporized essential oils directly on the nose, in full intensity. So you only use one or two drops of essential oils!

Saunam mixtures

For Sauna mixtures using a maximum of five drops of essential oils per ladle of water.

Although the oils are added to water, they are not mixed with cream before. So give the oils directly into the water and stir again thoroughly before taking a ladle of water on the stones.

Never give pure essential oils on the hot stones, as they are quite flammable and it can result in serious injury!

Please also note that some oils, such as citrus oils, can form residues on the stones over time. These residues can be removed with rubbing alcohol, of course, only when the stones are cold again.

Plaster mixtures

Use about ten drops per 5 liters of cleaning water essential oils such as lavender oil, lavandin or lemon oil.
